I stumbled across this
article as I was poking around the health section of MSNBC today, and I was
shocked at her story. Allanah Shevenell
is a 9-year-old girl who received a six organ transplant, the first of its kind
in New England, and the first ever esophagus transplant in the world. She is finally returning home after 3 months
away, and though she is still on a feeding tube and TPN, she is integrating
well back home. The article is just a
true testament to how far health science has advanced, and how important
something as simple as a good attitude, as well as some incredible surgeons, can be to healing quickly and properly. It serves as a reality check also, when we
think we have had a bad day because we are overwhelmed from work or stress of friends, imagine being
this 9-year-old girl, who at her age has already had to undergo an intensive surgery process, be away
from home for more than 3 months, and still unable to consume real food. She is a wonderful success story and her
story excites me for what I have left to see as I enter Nursing field on my
own, being able to experience and see such miracles happen every day.
